We fund the people
building Africa's future.

The Afara Foundation raises capital from donors in the United States to fund social enterprises and organisations working in Africa.

About the foundation

Our mission

The Afara Foundation is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit in the United States. Our mission is to promote social progress, economic development, and democratic governance in Africa.

We carry out our mandate through a partnership with The Afara Initiative, a non-profit based in Nigeria that prepares future-fit graduates at scale through two programs:

The Bridge
A highly selective, leadership-oriented fellowship for top university students.
The Pathway
A democratized, employment-oriented program embedded directly in universities.

Our activities

What the foundation does

TAF raises funds, mobilizes global allies, and helps coordinate the work of mission-aligned organizations, including The Afara Initiative, in the United States and beyond.

Our mandate is broad: to support economically relevant education, strong leadership, thriving global economies, and entrepreneurial outcomes. In fulfilling it, new industries and fields can emerge, stronger communities can be formed, more prosperous economies can be cultivated, and more effective governments and social enterprises can be created.

Activity

Fundraising

We raise funds from donors in the United States to support organizations sourcing and cultivating the partnerships that keep Africa and the rest of the last frontier from being left behind in economic development.

Activity

Grant making

We provide monetary grants to organizations that promote social progress, economic development, and democratic governance in Africa and beyond. All grants are made in furtherance of The Afara Foundation's tax-exempt purposes.
